A esterílização o flash consiste em um processo adotado para esterilizar, a vapor, itens de uso imediato no cuidado do pacien te. Recomendações do Center for Disease Control and Preventíon consideram que esse método nio deve ser empregado por razões de conveniência ou como alternativa para economizar tempo ou reduzir o inventário de instrumentos cirúrgicos. O presente trabalho, portanto, teve, como objetivo, realizar um levantamento da literatura para esclarecer con ceitos sobre os cíclos tipo flash e apontar os problemas em sua utilizaçio, como a falta de tempo para o indicador biológico monitorar o desempenho do equipamento, a contami naçio durante o transporle, o risco de quei madura para o paciente, o emprego de parâmetros mínimos para o cíclo de esteri liz.1çio e a ausência de estudos sobre os ín dices de inlecçio cínírgíca com o uso do mé todo flash. Concluímos que as recomenda ções da literatura contra-indicam a utilizaçio rotineira de tal recurso . Contudo, nas situa ções em que ele foradotado, cuidados devem ser tomados para evitar danos ao paciente.
