Abstract

Objective: To relate the development of Compartment Syndrome with surgical positioning, from the discussion of the pathophysiology, presentation of risk positions and prevention, control and intervention mechanisms. Method: Systematic review of articies found by search in the Virtual Health Library and PubMed databases. lesults: Surgicai positioning isreiated to the development of compartment syndrome mostly because of the impairment of blood flow tocertain areas. The identification of signs and symptomsis usually performed by nurses and can influencethe outcome if eariy intervention is implemented. Conclusion: By having focus on care and providingdirect assistance to patients during intraoperativeperiod, in the post-anaesthetic recuperation unit andafter the return to the ward, nursing plays important role especially in the early recognition, contributing to the prevention and reduction of complications resulting from Compartment Syndrome.
